Goodbye Pat

Just a short seven weeks after losing my mom, we lost my mother-in-law. While "mother-in-law" tends to have stereotypical connotations of a forebode bad relationship, that was not the case for me. Pat welcomed me into the family with open arms and a loving heart.

As we got to know each other, we learned we had a lot in common and she became one of my best friends and confidants. Her guidance helped me through some tough times and I will be forever grateful. I will miss her smile, her wit and her sense of fun. Mostly, I'll miss our weekly chats. She was a huge part of my life and I am glad to have called her "Mom".

November

Another HHS mini-reunion

Teena and I

Our high school class's November mini-reunion is usually a low turnout due to the proximity of Thanksgiving, but it gave my oldest friend and I a great opportunity to sit back, chat and generally catch up. Teena and I grew up a block away from each other and attended the same schools from kindergarten through high school graduation. Though life keeps us busy and we don't get to see each other as often as we like, it's comforting to know that if either of us should need the other, we're just a phone call away.

December

61st annual REIBT

Ukiah free throw

The weekend of the annual Redwood Empire Invitational Basketball Tournament, hosted by Healdsburg High school, is always marked on the calendar for my dad and I. We meet up for dinner, then take in the girls' and boys' championship games.

The lady greyhounds (Healdsburg) took second place in the girls' tourney and my new hometown of Ukiah's boys took the championship. Not sure who I'd root for should it be Healdsburg vs. Ukiah for a championship!

Target shooting

Bob and his dad have been talking for the past couple of summers about going target shooting, but hadn't yet gotten the opportunity. When Ryan offered up a private shooting range, we loaded up the guns and set out.

Bob and Al Ryan taking aim

Between the three (Ryan, Bob and Al), there was quite the assortment of firepower - rifles, shotguns, and handguns. We had paper targets, soda cans and the best of all - pumpkins - to take are aim at. I was the amateur of the group by far, but I managed to hit my fair share.

Savings Bank Christmas party

One home that won't be foreclosed on

The Savings Bank of Mendocino County, where I work, held their annual Christmas party on December 19th.The lobby was fully decorated with gingerbread houses, Christmas trees, and a photo op area with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. A balloon artist was hired to entertain the kids.

Wells, Ryan and I (all IT cronies) couldn't pass up a chance at a group photo, but I couldn't convince either of them to sit on Santa's lap! Probably a good thing for Santa's knee!
