Rob's grandson racing - another generation of racer is on the track!

Rob and Mary were gracious hosts to us on Sunday as we gathered together to take in a full day of racing. First, the Indy 500, followed by NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600. For some of the kids though, watching it on television wasn't enough. Cameron hopped into Rob's online racing rig and took her out for a spin or two around the track.

Cave of the Winds

We made Cave of the Winds, located in Manitou Springs, the next stop on our itinerary. Stumbled upon by two young, exploring boys in the late 1800's, Cave of the Winds offers underground tours through nearly two-thirds of the two miles of tunnels surveyed.

It's a fascinating tour with large caverns, narrow passageways, and interesting rock formations. Stalagtites (formations that hang from the ceiling) and stalagmites (those that protrude up from the floor) abound. The glowing effect in the photo below was caused by the camera flash, the light captured in the tubes of the stalagtites and reflected back.

Our last tourist stop was to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings in Manitou Springs. These adobe dwellings were home to the Anasazi, or Ancient Ones, over 700 years ago. The tour is self-guided and explains each room and its purpose, whether it be a communal living area, storage or lookout.
